Publication Featured on the Cover of Nature Reviews

An image supplied by Dr. McVeigh, Dr. Pashakhanloo and their fellow researchers based on the recent publication “Myofiber Architecture of the Human Atria as Revealed by Submillimeter Diffusion Tensor Imaging” published by American Heart Association, is featured on the front cover of the January 2017-VOL 14-NO 1 issue of Nature Reviews (Cardiology). According to Nature magazine,

Cover image supplied by Farhad Pashakhanloo and Natalia Trayanova (Department of Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA), David Bluemke (National Institutes of Health Clinical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, USA), and Elliot McVeigh (University of California San Diego, La Jolla, California, USA). The picture shows detailed fibre tractography of the whole heart from a patient with atrial fibrillation. The image is reconstructed from in-vitro high-resolution diffusion tensor MRI obtained over 60 h of scan time. The tracts follow the local fibre orientation and reveal the myofibre architecture in both the atria and the ventricles.

Dr. McVeigh is currently the lab director of Cardiovascular Imaging Lab at University of California, San Diego and Dr. Pashakhanloo is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Institute for Computational Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University.
